Hey everyone, I am back! We had a busy month with doctor visits, catching up on school work, therapy sessions, Lily and Seth had to get an endoscopy also. Anyways I have been meaning to write this for a while. As you know my kids are special needs. They all learn in different ways. One method that works the same for all of them is hands on. They love anything hands on. I am going to share some of our favorite
finds.
Reading, Spelling, Sentence building
The kids were having issues with reading, spelling and sentence building. Just doing book work was not working. So to help them I had to get some hands on things, but what do I choose? There is so many options. Lily learns different than Emma, Seth learns different than all of them, Lucy and Emma are similar but on a different levels. The first thing we tried to help with reading was
It worked great for Emma. On the other hand Lily hated it. I found out that she does not like fast pace games. She needs a little more time to think. I had to find something that she would love and something that would encourage her instead of discourage her. Next thing I got was
This was super simple and easy. She learned to read and spell these words very quickly. She was very proud of her accomplishment. She continued wanting to learn finally! Since both of them were moving on in reading and spelling we had to get something a little bit harder for both of them. Next we got
These helped both of them with sentence building. They can make short sentences or longer ones. The silly rhymes one really encouraged Lily to read. They still enjoy making silly sentences with this. Seth and Lucy have yet to use it too. It is sturdy enough I am sure it will last long enough for all my kids to use it.
Math and Manipulatives
I need/needed all the help I can get with math as it was never my strongest subject either. Remember how I said these kids learn different ways? I have been trying to teach Seth numbers since he was 3. I couldn't find anything that would encourage him to learn his numbers. He absolutely loves cars, trucks or just anything with wheels. So I looked up learning things with cars. Guess what? I found exactly what he needed! To help teach him numbers and quantities I got
This was a game changer for him. Lucy loves using it too. After they learn numbers they can flip the pages and start adding and subtracting. Now in every classroom you need a 100's chart. Not just any chart though. If your kids are anything like mine you need something that holds up.
Something that helped all of them learn quantities was
They also have adding and subtracting ones also. Next had to get Lily something hands on for Lily to learn to add and subtract we got
To help Lily and Emma with fractions we got
Ok, I am sure there is tons more I could add but those are my kids favorites. Here are a few learning things that have helped my kids with pencil grip, coordination, colors, shapes, geography, science or just plain fun! They love these! Learning Resource, Mellissa and Doug, and Steam has tons and tons of learning fun for all ages. Even mom and dad could help build a robot or watch weather patterns with one of these cool science kits. I posted the links below to help you find what you need to make your kids learning journey super fun and exciting.
